The Story

The dream catcher origin has many layers, mostly from Indigenous tribes of Canada and US. Out of many , there is two which stand out. In one, it’s believed that dream catchers originated from the Ojibwe tribe. The Asibikaashi (spider woman) was the village caregiver who protected babies and young children from evil forces at night. Mothers and grandmothers of the village started making magical webs with willow hoops and placed them over the children’s beds for protection. The other legend originated from the Lakota tribe and describes a story of an old spiritual leader who encounters Iktomi- spiritual sage who appears as a spider in a vision, who finds a willow hoop and begins to weave a web and tells the leader that we begin our lives as a babies, then children, adults, and lastly elders. This completes the web of life and in each life we as a humans go through good and bad experiences. The web is also considered to be a representation of visions, goals and dreams we make them and allow good things to come into our lives in efforts to change ourselves for the better. The web restores eternal life and the ring symbolizes the path we make an Earth. Remember that dream catchers allow good energy to flow in and bad energy to flow out so having one in your wardrobe is a good thing one way or another . Each one is individually made with love to bring you more easy flow and balance in life.

I'm happy and honored to be welcomed into the Native community by my Aboriginal friends here in Vancouver. If you would like to learn more or you would like to make your own medicine drums, please visit: http://allmyrelationsteachings.ca/
